Kiyan Anthony: A Rising Star Forging His Own Path
Basketball prodigy Kiyan Anthony is rapidly ascending the ranks of high school basketball, capturing the eyes of fans and scouts alike. Standing at 6-foot-5, Kiyan's presence on the court is unmistakable. This four-star recruit, currently ranked No. 36 in the 2025 class, has already begun etching his name into the annals of future basketball stardom.
Currently attending Long Island Lutheran High School in Brookville, New York, Kiyan is following in the athletic footsteps of his illustrious father, Carmelo Anthony. Carmelo, a legendary figure in basketball, famously led Syracuse to the national championship as a freshman in 2003 and has since contributed generously to the university’s basketball facilities, now bearing his name. Yet, despite the formidable shadow cast by Carmelo, Kiyan is determined to carve out his own legacy.
In his own words, Kiyan articulates the balance between honoring his father's achievements and forging his own path. “My father never pushes me to go to Syracuse just because his name is on the gym. He did so much at Syracuse. He knows that I’m my own person. I’ve just got to make my own decision at the end of the day,” Kiyan shared candidly.
Selecting the Right College
Kiyan's journey to choosing a college is filled with thoughtfulness and introspection. Among his potential college destinations are Auburn, USC, Florida State, Ohio State, Rutgers, and Syracuse. While many might assume that Syracuse would be his automatic choice, Kiyan remains undecided. “Even though I know basically the whole world wants me to go to Syracuse, I still haven't made the decision yet and I still have to talk to the coaches some more and really get into detail -- like what other players are coming, how they want me to play, how I’ll be coached and stuff like that,” Kiyan explained.
Throughout the decision-making process, Kiyan relies heavily on his supportive family, not only his father but also his mother, who plays a crucial role in his personal and athletic development. “Everybody sees when the cameras are on [my dad] and then they’re on me because I’m playing good, but I would say my mom does a lot more background stuff,” Kiyan said. “Like, when I’m going through something or I need somebody to talk to, my mom is definitely the person. And she’s the one who really pushes me to get in the gym, even if I don’t want to. To go to school and stay on top of my grades and stuff like that.”
The Road Ahead
As Kiyan works through his college visits, taking a meticulous approach, he recognizes the importance of evaluating every aspect of a potential program. “So I still have to finish up my visits, and then, ultimately, just make a decision. I will rely on my parents a lot with their advice and how they think a school fits me,” he noted.
Kiyan's ability to balance his personal ambitions with the expectations placed upon him speaks volumes about his maturity. He understands the unique position he holds but remains grounded in his own values. “If it is Syracuse -- I go there a lot and I practice, I work out there -- if it is that, that’s what it is. But he’s never going to say, ‘You gotta go to Syracuse. You gotta go there because I went there.’ He’s not going to make me follow in his footsteps unless I really want to,” Kiyan emphasized.
Beyond Basketball
Off the court, Kiyan exhibits a deep sense of loyalty and friendship, often considering how his actions and opportunities impact those around him. “My friends maybe not having the same opportunities as I have, I’m the one that’s tried to bring them along with me. I don’t want to make them feel left out,” he shared.
Kiyan Anthony's story is one of a young athlete poised at the intersection of expectation and individuality. As he continues to grow and develop, both as a player and a person, Kiyan’s journey will be closely watched by many. Through it all, his unique blend of talent, thoughtfulness, and familial support positions him to successfully navigate the challenges and triumphs that lie ahead.
